No criminal matters are considered.
Our services include but are not limited to the following:
Protecting Homes:
Desert Legal Aid works to preserve and expand affordable housing and prevent homelessness by enforcing housing laws and regulations, including discrimination in renting or purchasing a home, security deposit issues, 3, 30 and 60 day notices, evictions, lockouts, inadequate maintenance and repair of units by landlords, foreclosure frauds, and improper home seizures.
Ending Domestic Violence:
Desert Legal Aid provides legal assistance to domestic violence survivors so they can escape abuse and create a safe and stable environment for their families. In addition we also assist survivors with securing housing, public benefits and health care.
Government Benefits:
For individuals and families qualifying as low-income and very low-income, as well as those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, Desert Legal Aid provides free assistance in applying for government benefits such as Social Security retirement, SSDI disability, Medicare/Medi-Cal, Healthy Families and U.S Department of Veterans Affairs benefits for veterans and their spouses.
Ensuring Economic Security:
For individuals overcoming barriers to employment and education in order to gain self-sufficiency (i.e. those with limited English proficiency and CalWORKs recipients transitioning from welfare to work) Desert Legal Aid assists in securing access to job training, affordable housing, welfare, unemployment, Social Security, food stamps and other services.
Securing Access to Health Care:
Desert Legal Aid helps individuals and families access essential health care services and insurance coverage. We provide information about health care options and rights, advice on pursuing appeals and grievances, representation in health plan grievances and state administrative hearings, materials about services and rights under various health care programs, referrals to other organizations when appropriate (i.e. Medicare/Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, County Medical Services for Indigents, Mental Health Care, SSI, Veterans’ Benefits and Patient’s Rights).

Desert Legal Aid provides notary services.
Desert Legal Aid cannot help in such cases as:
If we determine that we cannot assist the client with their particular issues, we will attempt to refer them to an appropriate agency or organization.
